The Magic of Disney Animation, located behind the Disney Jr. Live on Stage area, is a wonderful place to stop during your visit to Hollywood Studios. Not only is it indoors and air conditioned but there are so many entertaining activities for adults and children of all ages.
The tour starts in a comfy theater where a Disney animator shows guests how animated Disney characters are chosen and designed, with a little help from Mushu, the dragon from Mulan. After the film is over you are led into a large showroom with several interactive games. One area is the Sound Stage which allows hands on play with sound effects and you can create your own soundtrack. There is also the You’re A Character activity–you visit with Lumiere (from Beauty and the Beast). He asks you different questions and will tell you which Disney character you are most like. There is also the Digital Ink and Paint where you can add color to different Disney animated scenes. This one is a personal favorite of my 2 yr. old.
This showroom is also a great place for character meet and greets. The featured characters are usually from the latest Disney movies but they do change so I recommend checking your daily guide for times and what characters will be appearing.
Once you have finished with your personal tour you will head out through the Animation Gallery. This is a great shop that features animated cels, limited edition reproductions, and many other unique Disney collectibles. Make sure you check it out, you might just find that one of a kind item you were looking for!
