Who doesn’t love the show that Walt Disney World puts on with fireworks at Magic Kingdom? Disney does such a phenomenal job on these shows, they literally makes every other firework show seem weak and sad in comparison. There are a few drawbacks to viewing the fireworks at Magic Kingdom though. I remember the many times my family would find the perfect spot to view the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, arriving an hour or more early to stake our claim to said spot, only to find ourselves crushed as the time for said fireworks dawned and every other guest decided that our spot was also the perfect spot for them to view the fireworks. I remember all the times we were stuck in the throng of people, unable to move and barely able to breathe. I remember not being able to escape the crowd as the show ended so we could attempt to ride an attraction.
A few years ago, we decided to do something different. While everyone else in the park is running for Main Street to view the fireworks, we would forego them. You have to understand that the wait time for most attractions drop dramatically during the showtimes, so in lieu of being crushed by everyone, we decided we would just take advantage of the lower wait times. That’s when we made a delightful discovery!
There are actually a few attractions that offer a delightful view of the fireworks as you are riding them! Some only offer a quick glimpse, but others offer prime viewing as you are riding. Today, I’m going to let you know what my favorite attractions to ride at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom that will also offer you a view of the fireworks are, in consecutive order to end with my personal favorite viewing spot.
4) The Barnstormer: I’ll start with The Barnstormer because, quite frankly, this ride seems like it lasts two seconds from beginning to end. It’s cute and fun, but you don’t get a lot of actual ride time on it, which means you will only catch a very quick glimpse of the fireworks while riding it. It’s still worth it, even if it is very fast, just to get that view.
3) Dumbo the Flying Elephant: I LOVE riding Dumbo the Flying Elephant at night. As a matter of fact, we don’t even bother trying to ride Dumbo during the day, we simply prefer the nighttime ambience of this attraction. There’s just something magical about soaring through the night air with Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Factor into that delightful nighttime ride on Dumbo the fact that, if timed right, you get an excellent view of the fireworks as well, Dumbo the Flying Elephant is a top choice to ride while the show is going on.
2) Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train: Seven Dwarf’s Mine train is one of the most fun rides anytime, but when you ride it at night, you have the added bonus of viewing those fireworks. Imagine just rising over one of those hills in your train car and looking up to see a beautiful explosion of colorful fireworks displayed just for your viewing pleasure. Take my word for it, this is one the best attractions to be on during the fireworks. I haven’t been able to take any photo’s of fireworks from this ride, I was just having too much fun to try to take out my phone and get a (probably very blurry) photo from this viewpoint.
1)Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover: There’s nothing more relaxing after a long day of hot-footing it all over Magic Kingdom than to hop aboard PeopleMover, kicking back and relaxing as a cool breeze flows over you. Try taking a ride at night, sit back and put your feet up as you watch a spectacular display in the sky. We tried this view for the first time on our last trip and we very quickly decided it was, by far, our favorite attraction to view fireworks from. There was literally no line to board and the amazing Cast Member was kind enough to let us ride over and over without disembarking so we could finish watching the fireworks. I regret that I didn’t take any photo’s of the fireworks from this viewpoint, but we were enjoying the ride so much, and we were so relaxed as we viewed the skyline, I simply didn’t think to take any photo’s.
I will add an honorable mention for Astro Orbiter, because I imagine you would have a lovely view of the fireworks from there, but honestly, we have only ridden this particular attraction once as the lines are always too long for our taste.
There you have it, my top four attractions at Walt Disney World to ride while viewing the nighttime fireworks. Have any of you taken the same path as we have and elected to view the show from attractions rather than fight the crowd? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
