To be completely honest with you, I feel like Disney’s Hollywood Studios really lacks restaurant choices; especially if you want variety. I would love to see Disney add some more choices but I still can’t dismiss the available choices. What Disney’s Hollywood Studios does offer are some pretty unique dining experiences.
One of those unique dining experiences is the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, located on the corner between the ABC Commissary and Star Tours. This Table Service restaurant is one of my favorites and I would recommend reservations. Depending on the timing of your visit, reservations may not be necessary. We’ve certainly eaten there without reservations, but it’s best not to risk it. If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre Restaurant does accept the Dining Plan and it will cost you one table service credit per person.
What makes this restaurant unique is the atmosphere. The seating is found in classic cars fitted with small tables all situated around a movie screen, much like an old drive-in movie theater. If you’re too young to know what I’m taking about, just Google it! It’s pretty cool. So it’s pretty dark inside the restaurant to give it that drive-in feel and make it easier to see the screen. Also keep in mind that the tables themselves are pretty small. So don’t expect much table space. It’s a fairly tight space but the atmosphere is pretty cool. You’ll also see old black and white clips from Sci-Fi shows and commercials. That’s pretty cool too but you don’t have to be there too long before you realize you’ve reached the end of the loop and you start seeing the same things all over again. But I certainly wouldn’t let that stop you from trying it out!
Now on to the menu! If you have visited in the past but it’s been awhile, you may want to check it out again. The menu has changed to include more gourmet burgers and other items so that it isn’t too basic. If you haven’t visited before, just know that the menu is pretty much what you’d expect from a 50’s like diner. Entrees range from $16 to $33. You’ll find options like burgers, steak, and barbecue as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Everything is pretty good, although we typically stick to burgers. I know, you can find burgers almost anywhere at Disney World but I just can’t help but order a burger in a place like this.
There’s also some great dessert options, although I typically go for a milkshake! Their milkshakes are really good; especially my favorite, the Oreo Cookie milkshake!
So, now let’s be honest here. If you’re looking for fine dining, this isn’t the place for you. But if you’re looking for good food in a fun and unique atmosphere, I would highly recommend this place!
