By now you have probably seen the new Princess popping up all over The Disney Channel and Disney Jr. She is the oldest Princess in Avalor (her younger sister, Princess Isabel is also around) and until she is crowned Queen, she rules alongside her governing council.
In true Disney fashion, Princess Elena has had some hardships. She was trapped in Princess Sofia’s amulet for 41 years. Princess Sofia helped free Princess Elena, who is now free to take her rightful place in Avalor. Avalor in itself is a pretty beautiful place-lots of color, waterfalls, and cliffs. It is based on the countries in Latin America, making Princess Elena and Princess Isabel the first main Latino princesses.
Earlier this month, Princess Elena was awarded the royal treatment when she was introduced and welcomed to the Magic Kingdom. Several times a day (9:05am, 10:00am, 12:20pm, and 1:35pm) Cinderella and Prince Charming welcome Princess Elena to the Magic Kingdom. They are on the main stage outside of the castle.
Prince Charming and Cinderella take a few moments to introduce the lovely new Princess Elena. Princess Elena makes her grand entrance with strolling musicians and bannermen holding the flags of Avalor. Princess Elena looks lovely in her red dress and flower she wears in the show. Personally, my daughter and I thought she was beautiful.
Once Elena says a few words she grabs her guitar and serenades the audience with one of the songs from the show. Besides being beautiful, Princess Elena can sing! She has an amazing voice. I believe she sang one of the songs from the show, but I honestly can’t remember which one. It was about being brave and true-a perfect song for a modern-day princess.
Elena also does a quick stroll from the back of the castle around Prince Charming’s Carousel. She strolls along the pathway accompanied by her musicians and bannermen, so she doesn’t stop. She has her guitar and you may catch her playing a little. We happened to be in the back during one of her strolls and were able to wave hello and see her in person. As far as I know this isn’t on the app or even the map- ask one of the Cast Members who work in that area when Princess Elena will be strolling by. Currently there are no formal meet and greets, but we are all hoping it will be soon.
We were able to get pretty close to the stage for the Royal Welcome. The whole thing lasted less than 10 minutes. While Princess Elena was singing her song, I was watching my daughter and then the crowd. They crowd was mostly Latino families. The moms’ faces were the best. They looked so proud and excited. Maybe it’s the spirit of the Olympics, or the magic of Disney, but seeing grown women look at a princess with such respect, dignity, and excitement was heartwarming. Princesses come in all shapes, sizes, colors, accents, and backgrounds and it is wonderful that girls everywhere (both little and grown girls) have another strong, confident and brave Princess to look up to.
