My favorite Magic Kingdom mornings begin with rope drop. I just can’t get enough of the “magic, wrapped up in pixie dust” while watching the train as it arrives with Mickey and friends to welcome me into the Magic Kingdom. Once we have made our way down Main Street USA, smiling at everyone who is waving to us with the giant Mickey hands along the way, we pass Cinderella Castle and head into Fantasyland for a beautiful story-play at Enchanted Tales With Belle.
Diva Tip: You may be making a beeline for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but if you can wait, Enchanted Tales With Belle is one of my favorite attractions, and it’s the perfect way to start your day in the Magic Kingdom. The theming is incredible; the special effects are breathtaking, and the play itself is fun. Fancy Free son, daughter, and husband have all scored big roles in the play because there are typically fewer people in line for the first or second “show” of the day.
After Enchanted Tales With Belle, our morning culminates in a deliciously filling breakfast at Gaston’s Tavern.
Diva Tip: Gaston’s Tavern is a snack stop, so reservations are not needed.
As you near Gaston’s Tavern, there is a charmingly audacious fountain, gifted by Gaston himself, which prominently features Gaston in all his glory, hoisting a barrel and trampling his trusty sidekick, LeFou. The theming of Gaston’s Tavern may begin with the fountain, but it’s carried out in detail once you enter.
Inside the Tavern, you’ll see plenty of antlers, because that’s what Gaston uses in all of his decorating, and a dartboard and scoreboard that show off his prowess.
There are pewter signs hanging above the menu boards, which are scarred by arrows that have missed their targets. There is also an enormous portrait of the larger-than-life proprietor hanging above the fireplace mantle, lest anyone forget that it is, in fact, Gaston’s Tavern.
The seating inside the tavern is wooden and masculine, and when we arrive soon after park opening, we’ve never had difficulty in finding seats. The later in the morning it gets, though, the harder it becomes to find a seat.
Diva Tip: The best seat in the house is Gaston’s massive chair, draped very masculinely with the fur of his latest hunting trophy. It’s also the perfect place for a photo op.
While the menu at Gaston’s Tavern features a number of different food items, from ham and cheese stuffed pretzels, chocolate croissants, fresh fruit cups, and hummus and chips, we always order what I consider to be the tavern’s two signature items: the warm cinnamon rolls and LeFou’s Brew.
Diva Tip: Many of the items at Gaston’s Tavern can be purchased using a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan.
I’ll be honest with you: my family and I have had breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table, Be Our Guest, and the Crystal Palace, but there’s something about Gaston’s that keeps us coming back. It’s probably the cinnamon rolls that are as big as your head, truth be told.
Ever since the Main Street Bakery transformed into a Starbucks, those magical cinnamon rolls have found a home at Gaston’s Tavern. They’re huge and covered in sugary maple frosting. We often share two of them for our family of four because they’re so huge. They’re also delicious. Very, very delicious.
Diva Tip: If you ask really nicely, the cast member behind the counter will often scrape the bottom of the pan to give you extra frosting. Yum!
When it comes to beverages, the authentic-looking ale barrels are only for decoration. Gaston’s does serve fountain drinks, coffee, tea, milk, chocolate milk, assorted bottled juice, and bottled water, but the highlight of the drink menu is the non-alcoholic LeFou’s Brew.
Diva Tip: You can purchase the LeFou’s Brew in cute, but very expensive souvenir glasses featuring either Belle or the Beast, but you can also order it separately in a regular plastic cup.
LeFou’s Brew is one of the most refreshing drinks for a hot Florida day. It’s no sugar added apple juice slush that has been sweetened with toasted marshmallow syrup. It’s topped with a head of passion fruit foam that is a little tart, but it works to cut some of the sweetness of the drink itself. It is just so yummy. I’ll admit, though, I was skeptical at first. I read the description on the menu, and I wasn’t sure it was for me, but after that first sip, I was hooked. LeFou’s Brew is one tavern beverage that you can feel good about knocking back.
Diva Tip: LeFou’s Brew in its original form is a frozen drink perfect for hot days, but in the colder months, you can get LeFou’s Brew in a warm version, too. Additionally, it’s the same drink as Red’s Apple Freeze that you can get at the Cozy Cone Motel in Disney’s California Adventure.
Gaston’s Tavern is a must-do on all of our family Disney vacations, and we breakfast here at least once per trip. The theming and décor comes straight out of Beauty and the Beast, and the food and drink hits the spot. If you’re looking for a great breakfast spot in the Magic Kingdom, head on over to Gaston’s Tavern and raise a glass! You won’t be disappointed.
Be sure to contact Patricia with All for Dreams Travel to help plan your Walt Disney World vacation for you, and make sure to include a stop to visit Gaston!
Diva Tip: Gaston is often available to sign autographs outside the tavern. He’ll be happy to flex a muscle, arm wrestle, or flirt!
