If you’re like me, you’ve been moping ever since the final episode of Phineas and Ferb aired back in 2015. Even as an adult this show has been one of my favorites since it premiered back in 2007.
The storyline of the series follows two brothers (Phineas and Ferb of course) who find inventive ways to spend the days of their summer vacation. Their activity list includes things like building a rollercoaster, having ice cream in the Milky Way, playing crazy sports like “Hockey Z9” and thoroughly irritating their big sister Candace. Their sister is the subject line of the new movie that just premiered on Disney+, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe.
Throughout the original series, Candace is known for trying to “bust her brothers” by showing her mom all the crazy inventions and creations that the boys build in their backyard. The movie opens with the same concept of Candace trying to bust her brothers. When she is unsuccessful, again, Candace tells of her woes to a friend. All of a sudden a giant rocket ship type vehicle lands in the front of the house. Candance investigates, thinking that this is one of her brother’s crazy inventions, ends up on board with her friend Vanessa. The rocket suddenly takes off and Candace and Vanessa find themselves hurling toward outer space.
Phineas and Ferb witness the rocket take off and go after their sister. Along their journey they join up with Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Vanessa’s father, to attempt to follow and save the girls.
Alongside the main story of saving Candance is the side-plot that follows Agent P, or Perry the Platypus. Perry is the pet of Phineas and Ferb’s family, who secretly doubles as an agent who fights evil. Perry gets alerted that Candace has been abducted by aliens and he also heads off to save her!
This movie was everything I hoped it would be. I am such a huge fan of the series, and I had no doubts watching this would be extremely satisfying and it was. All your favorite characters from the series are included in this movie.
When comparing the animation and character integrity it was nearly identical to the original series. The animation was slightly different but I chalked it up to the advancement of technology in the last 5 years, and the movie being made for a streaming service. Overall it was a subtle change and didn’t distract from the movie. The characters were exactly how we left them, which was a relief to see! The soundtrack to the movie was a high point for me. Fans can expect music along with the same style as the original series. As far as the songs go, some felt a little forced in the moment, but others were right on par with the tv series and felt very natural to the storyline. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the music, and the final musical number is definitely getting added to my Disney playlist!
The only downfall to this movie is that there was not nearly enough Perry the Platypus sub-plot for me. I would’ve loved to have him more involved in the adventure. He is around and pops up here and there, but I was left wanting more!!
In the end, I would definitely suggest fans of the original series check out this movie! It’s a fun flashback to what the series was during its height. My hope is that the movie gets enough attention on Disney+ that the creators continue to give us more Phineas and Ferb content for the future!
I used to be recommended this website through my cousin. I am
not positive whether this put up is written by him as no one
else understand such exact about my difficulty. You are amazing!
Thank you!
