As an over-planner for all of my trips to Walt Disney World, I like to read reviews, look at pictures and ponder over the new places I want to try. On our Magic Kingdom days, I typically end up with the same picks for breakfast (Crystal Palace), lunch (usually a quick service) and dinner (Be Our Guest) on each trip. This time I was determined that our family would try something new. For several trips now, I have had my eye on Liberty Tree Tavern, but when Advance Dining Reservation (ADR) time came around, I would opt for character meals, like Crystal Palace or Cinderella’s Royal Table, or go for the glamorously themed, like Be Our Guest. I also have a love for Lady and the Tramp, so Tony’s Town Square is another favorite of mine. But on our last trip, I decided to put characters and glamour aside and see what Liberty Tree Tavern had to offer. From reading reviews, our family ended up choosing a lunch reservation so that we could each make a selection from the menu, rather than all getting the same thing, served family-style at dinner. We had a couple of other meals family-style, so we were looking to try something different.
Upon arriving at Liberty Tree Tavern, I could quickly tell that while well-themed (18th Century Colonial American), it lacked the “wow” factor of Cinderella’s Royal Table or Be Our Guest. The entrance features a large fireplace and some seating. A table with bench seating held coloring pages and crayons for children as they waited. The day of our visit, the basket was full of only green crayons, which was strange. Tons of green crayons! My children are not picky, however, and my three year old daughter had no problem coloring Minnie Mouse (dressed as Betsy Ross sewing the American flag) in all green. Rooms are themed to commemorate pivotal figures in U.S. history: Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, John Paul Jones, Betsy Ross and George Washington.
We were seated in the Betsy Ross room. The lunch menu featured a variety of appetizers, like Crab and Lobster Dip for Two, Sweet Corn Fritters, and New England Clam Chowder. We opted to pass on an appetizer, and I am glad we did. Our lunch portions were huge! The lunch entrees included offerings like Fish and Chips, a vegetarian sandwich, grilled chicken salad, the Liberty Boys BLT, Angus Chuck Cheeseburger, and a Pilgrim’s Feast, which includes turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and a vegetable. My husband chose the New England Pot Roast, which came highly recommended from our waitress. The recommendation was great! He really enjoyed it. I sampled a taste as well, and it was delicious.
I chose the Freedom Pasta with Grilled Chicken. This dish was huge and very, very filling. Grilled chicken, rested on top of rigatoni noodles, sautéed vegetables and was tossed with a cream sauce. It was very tasty!
Both of my children chose Macaroni & Cheese, and the portions were very large for them as well. They could have easily shared a bowl, but since we were on the dining plan, they each got their own. There were no side items with their entree. I would have liked them to have a vegetable or fruit accompanying their meal, but they had no trouble filling up on the cheesy noodles.
Again, since we were on the dining plan, we all got dessert. My children each received a sundae- vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate syrup and covered with red, white and blue star sprinkles.
I had read great things about the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake, so that is what I chose. It did not disappoint!
Once all of our nearly-empty dishes were removed from the table, our Magic Bands scanned, and our things collected for more time exploring the Magic Kingdom, my husband and I quickly agreed that the food was quite possibly the best we had on our trip. It was filling, delicious and we did not have to wait long for our food, and that is why you must give Liberty Tree Tavern a try!
Again, dinner is served family style, so it differs from the entrees and desserts we were offered at lunch. Dinners consist of Declaration Salad, a Patriot’s Platter (featuring turkey breast, pot roast, and ham with mashed potatoes, vegetables, herb stuffing, and macaroni and cheese), and Johnny Appleseed’s Tart for dessert. ADRs are recommended for Liberty Tree Tavern for both lunch and dinner, and both meals use 1 Disney Table Service Dining Credit.
While meeting characters during a meal is so much fun, and sitting in the grand ballroom of Be Our Guest is pretty amazing, and looking out over Fantasyland from Cinderella’s Royal Table is breathtaking, sometimes a great, delicious and quiet meal is just what is needed on a trip to Walt Disney World. We really enjoyed our lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern, and I feel sure we will dine here again in the future!
