Of all the Walt Disney World parks, the one with the most plentiful and diverse dining options is EPCOT, hands down. My husband and I have always had a habit of sticking to our tried and true restaurants, not branching out to other options very often. A couple of years ago, we decided to try La Cantina De San Angel a try.
The food at La Cantina De San Angel is delicious! I devoured my plate and we have made it a habit to stop here every trip since. Located in the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT’s World Showcase, La Cantina De San Angel sits on scenic water with plenty of outdoor seating, as well as some indoor seating. We prefer to sit at one of the outdoor tables overlooking the water. It’s quite peaceful to sit on the covered deck, watching the ducks swim and feeling the breeze blow.
I admit I’ve only tried one of their dishes to date, but it tastes so good, I haven’t even wanted to try anything else yet. My go-to dish here is the Tacos De Barbacoa. Three beef tacos with a side of black beans and rice. When you have been walking all over EPCOT and working up a big appetite, trust me, the Tacos De Barbacoa can fill that hungry hole. I usually can’t finish the tacos and have to convince my husband to eat it for me. I had never considered myself a fan of black beans, but something about the black beans at La Cantina beckons me, I can’t resist them!
My husband went for the Nachos on this last trip. The serving size is HUGE, which makes it a great value, especially if you are into sharing meals (which my husband isn’t). It’s loaded with meat, chips, sour cream, peppers, tomatoes and cheese. He raved about them, so I’m pretty sure he’ll be getting the nachos again.
You can grab your little cups of salsa, hot and mild, as well as napkins and straws at the various booths located in the dining areas. I’m not a huge spicy food fan, so I always go for the milder, green salsa, while my husband goes for the spicier, red version. Make sure you grab plenty of those napkins available, this food can be a little messy, depending on what you choose to eat.
The food at La Cantina De San Angel is pretty popular, so I would advise going at the “not so popular dining times” to eat, just to ensure you get a free table. Though seating is plentiful there, all of the tables were full when we went, even the indoor seating. I watched several people carry their trays inside, only to come back outside again because seating options were full. My recommendation would be to go about 11:30 am for lunch or a little before 5 pm or after 6:30 pm for dinner. We like to go for lunch and then head over to Gran Fiesta Tour to take a little boat ride with the Three Caballeros!
La Cantina De San Angel is considered a quick-service restaurant on the Disney Dining Plan, so no need to worry about making reservations. If you are on one of the Dining Plans available, make sure you try one of the delicious dishes here. If you are paying out of pocket, note that the most expensive dish is the Taco De Barbacoa at $14.00, which really isn’t a bad price when comparing to other Disney quick-service restaurants. Also, note that they offer the Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich and Churros for a snack option on the dining plan if you have a sweet tooth.
Perhaps in the future, I’ll venture out of my box a little more and try something else from the menu, after all, I know it will taste good. If you haven’t had a chance to eat at La Cantina De San Angel yet, I highly recommend that you give it a whirl. What can be better than relaxing by the water with beautiful scenery while enjoying your meal? If you have tried it, what’s your favorite dish? I would love to know for my future reference.
