Hi everyone!! Time for something a little different! We are going to be talking about Hidden Mickeys. Hidden Mickeys are a staple of Walt Disney World and many other Disney theme parks. There are so many and some are easy to find while others you really have to search for.
Just in case some of you don’t know what a Hidden Mickey is, a hidden mickey is a mickey head silhouette like the one in this photo. Some Hidden Mickeys aren’t even in the shape of Mickey Mouse, some are shaped as Tinker bell, Donald Duck, and some aren’t characters at all! Take for example the ring in front of the Haunted Mansion (super hard to find! Especially when raining!). Here are some tips and fun facts on finding Hidden Mickeys!
There are over 1,000 Hidden Mickeys at Walt Disney World and at least one in every attraction. They are even in the hotel rooms at Disney. A great way to find many Hidden Mickeys is to purchase the Hidden Mickeys book by Steven M. Barrett. I love using this book because it has a scavenger hunt with clues but also tells you exactly where Hidden Mickeys are. This is great for people starting out on the Hidden Mickey search. But you can find them without the book, it’s just a good reference. Throughout this article I will give the locations of a Hidden Mickey in the Magic Kingdom and how to find it. Number 1. The Jungle Cruise sign. On the bottom of the sign there is a classic Hidden Mickey.
Some Hidden Mickey’s are extremely hard to find. There is one Hidden Mickey in the queue of the Little Mermaid ride in the New Fantasyland that can only be seen one day a year at a specific time. This is the most hidden Hidden Mickey at Walt Disney World.
Number 2. Inside the Haunted Mansion. When you enter the dining room look down on the table and a plate and two small plates make a classic Hidden Mickey. It will either be on the end right or end left of the table. The Imagineers like to change it up to keep Hidden Mickey searchers on their toes. This Hidden Mickey is actually very easy to spot unlike others.
Another great place to find Hidden Mickey’s is on the Buzz Lightyear ride. I think the last time I counted I found five. As you can see from the photo there is a Mickey Head on the picture of Earth. This Hidden Mickey is very easy to find because if you miss it the first time, there are three more in the queue just like it. I actually found a Hidden Mickey as I was leaving the Magic Kingdom just before I got on the ferry-boat. Sadly because there were so many people, I couldn’t get a photo. But as you are walking on the bridge to get on the boat, look to the right on the dock and you will plainly see a rope shaped in a classic Mickey head. That was the first time I had ever noticed that one.
Number 3. Just before the big drop on splash mountain the rock in front of you makes a Mickey side profile if you aren’t looking for it, it can be very hard to see but be on the look out for it- I promise it’s there!
Everyone should try to find Hidden Mickeys because it’s fun, easy to do, and the entire family can join in. I like making it a competition with my family. Who ever finds the most Hidden Mickeys gets to choose where we eat for dinner! Be on the look out for more articles like this. I will be doing an article on each park and will give you more hints as to where to find Hidden Mickeys. Let the hunt begin! Good luck!
