Everyone loves fall… the cooler weather, everything pumpkins, and a chance to use your imagination and get dressed up as we prepare for Halloween. While Halloween and fall décor abound at Disney theme parks, in Disney’s California Adventure, Carsland transforms into a fun and festive destination that you definitely won’t want to miss.
The residents of Radiator Springs have all decided to show their festive side by donning their favorite Halloween costumes. Lightening McQueen is a superhero (not my favorite of costumes, but he does make a good photo opp if you’re trying to get a picture with him or if you want to see him in a “new look), Red the Fire Truck is dressed as a clown, Cruz Ramirez is a pirate, and Mater has the best costume of all… he’s dressed as a vampire.
The Radiator Springs residents have also decided to show their love of Halloween by decorating the town. The “Welcome to Radiator Springs” sign has a scarecrow car propped next to it and has also taken on a Halloween theme, which is a perfect place to grab a quick photo with your family.
Luigi’s Casa Della Tires is now showcasing a wide variety of black tires with orange streaks across the center and on their hubcaps are stacked to make scary faces (the closest you will get to jack-o-lanterns made out of tires). Construction cones are strung up around the town and give you an eerie grin, while others by the Cozy Cone Motel hover over you intimidatingly.
You can also find other cars throughout Radiator Springs that are sporting their Halloween attire. I thought this spider themed car was particularly cute, and best of all, there was a photopass photographer nearby!
Speaking of photographs, there are plenty of photopass photographers in the area as well as other cast members that are more than happy to take your picture. Disney Diva Tip: If you want some extra spookiness, don’t forget to ask your Photopass photographer if they have any Magic Shots! While we didn’t find any in Carsland that had Magic Shots, there are plenty of Halloween themed opportunities (or other fun options like Huey, Dewey and Louie or holding balloons) to snag pictures with. And if you have Maxpass, you can take advantage of receiving digital downloads on all of your Photopass pictures for only $10!
Mater and Luigi have also embraced Halloween in their attractions. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree has turned into Mater’s Junkyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters has transformed into Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween. Both rides are complete with Halloween puns, not only in their names, but in the dialogue you hear during the rides (be prepared for lots of references to trunk or treating). They are a fun festive twist though, and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (or Mater’s Junkyard JamBOOree in this case), is still one of my favorite attractions in California Adventure. It’s definitely a ride you don’t want to miss! Disney Diva Tip: Like other holiday themed rides, these changes are seasonal. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters will return to their original state sometime in November, so make sure you take advantage of their holiday themes sometime in October (and know that if you have a trip scheduled in November, they may or may not be opened as they undergo their transformations).
Of course, if you need more Halloween excitement, Mickey and all of his friends are also walking around California Adventure dressed in their ghoulish garb (and their costumes differ than their traditional costumes you will find in Disneyland), and you can also find Vampirina greeting guests on Hollywood Blvd. The most magical spot of all though is near Carthay Circle where you can find a statue of the Headless Horseman that looks impressive in both the day and night.
