I want you to know that I did A LOT of research on Disneyland food. The MouseWait app was the tool I found most helpful, as it gives you a full menu and prices for most restaurants in the Disney realm. I read tons of blogs, (including this one) articles and reviews. The Dole Whip is legendary and comes highly recommended, so I had to try it! So, if you didn’t know The Dole Whip is found at the Tiki Juice Bar right outside the Tiki Room in Adventure Land. It is soft serve pineapple ice cream and the float is the same but has pineapple juice poured over it. Drooling Yet? So back to my story, it was a hot day in July so I decided to get the Dole Whip Float… and it was heaven in my mouth! The reviews were right! It was absolutely wonderful! And here my drama begins…
About 20-30 minutes after eating heaven in my mouth I start to feel completely EXHAUSTED I’m so tired that I can’t think, I can’t talk, and I’m barely coherent. Still, I am at Disneyland so I try and plow through, but within the next 5 minutes I am ready to crawl on the ground so I can curl into a ball and fall asleep. So I tell my husband and my kids, very urgently, that we have to stop and that I have to lie down and close my eyes just for a minute! They look at me like I’m crazy!

1. I probably looked and sounded crazy!
2. I never fall asleep anywhere but a bed!
3. Even then I usually have a hard time and it takes some Ambien to get me there.
4. And most important: Who naps at Disneyland?!
So my words are shocking to my family! They don’t understand, but there I am ready to fall over. I must have looked like it because they agreed. So we find a bench (mind you in one of the busiest areas inside Fantasyland just to the side of the drawbridge) and I lay on my hubby’s lap. It is busy, very noisy, and “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” is blasting through a speaker right above our heads. And then I wake up, barely even realizing that I had fallen asleep in the first place.
I had totally and completely crashed. I did feel much better though. Now I can add “Taken a nap at Disneyland” to a list of things I have done, and unless you’re under the age of 6 I’m not sure that’s such a good thing. We chalked it up to a blood sugar spike and then crash but I have never had anything like that happen to me before or since. I watched my sugar intake closely for the rest of our trip.
Diva Tips:
The line is long at The Tiki Juice Bar, I waited for at least 15 minutes. They serve 4 items which are The Pineapple Dole Whip Soft Serve $3.69, The Dole Whip Float $5.19, Fresh Pineapple Spear $2.99, and Dole Pineapple Juice $2.79.
If you have food allergiesor have any health issues, stick to your diet. Having a meltdown or reaction of any kind is hard, and then when you add on the exhaustion and embarrassment of being in a public place it makes it even harder. You will be tempted, but stick to it and you will feel better in the long run. Disneyland also offers many healthy options for food for the vegetarians and gluten free out there. You can find more information on dietary concerns at Disney here.
