Now, don’t get me wrong, I love decorating with Disney style. What I do not like is too much cartoon-like decor. I miss Disney World when I am not there and love to “Disney-fy” my home. Yet, I do not what it to scream Disney all over the place! I like to simply scatter Disney wherever possible without it being too obvious.
There are many things you can purchase that do not look too much like child decor. I have purchased several items from my local Hallmark card store. Two items are a small block with a quote along the bottom and a dark silhouette of Minnie and Mickey, and the other is Cinderella’s carriage. These are cute because they are more of an adult decor, rather than cartoons. I also like to mix in some items with regular home decor. By doing that it is not Disney over load, yet just enough to make people say “Wow that’s nice”. Disney Diva tip: Order some cute Disney throw-pillows, that is always a perfect touch!
Another easy and inexpensive option is finding prints on Etsy. Just ordering a print will only run you a few dollars. You can then digitally download the print of your choice, whether it’s a character or famous Disney quote and then upload it to your photo printing venue of choice. I tend to always use Snapfish or a similiar site, usually depending on what coupons or promo codes are available. I also will use my local Walgreens and enlarge it to any size I like if they are running a photo special.
I then will be on the search for a reasonably priced frame that would match my home. By doing so, I just made a nice inexpensive Disney framed art piece! I have done this with a print in my living room, bedroom and daughter’s bedroom. The great thing about choosing digital downloads from a site like Etsy is that you can really find anything in your taste and price range. It also gives you the chance to personalize some things more towards your personal liking.
I also like to go simple with Disney decor in my daughters bedrooms. My girls LOVE Disney! I like to incorporate some Disney style but nothing to extreme. I feel young child grow out of certain themes quickly so I like to keep it cute and simple. A few framed prints and a cute “do it yourself” decor. One really cute idea I found on Etsy was to make a lantern like the ones from the Disney movie Tangled. I went to my local Home Goods, found a battery powered pillar candle with a timer for $6.00! I ordered a printed lantern image like from the movie which was printed on transparent paper. I wrapped the image around the lantern and turned it out! A super cute and inexpensive floating lantern just like Rapunzel’s! I flip the switch so it turns on at bedtime for my daughter and turns off 8 hours later! No hassle of extra night lights or worrying about turning it off before bed!
My kids playroom, which is part of a downstairs family room, has some cute Disney flair. Again, not too much but enough for people to admire and ask “Where did you find that?” If you do find some unique and different items that seem expensive, buy it! Many times things become discontinued and if you love it, why not buy it now?! You may find it again down the road but at an even more expensive price due to its rarity! I found this awesome mirror on Ebay many years ago. It was not cheap, but I knew I would probably never find it again or if I did, it would cost more! Sometimes it’s okay to splurge; house decorating is one of those things at times.
I found a cute window pane frame in Home Goods one day for $8.00 and grabbed it, I was not sure what I was going to do with it until I thought of something! I printed several Disney pictures of my family over the last few years all in black and white to match my home decor. It came out cute and did not cost much money at all!
You can also add some cute Disney flair to the outside of your home. I have found so many things at some local retail stores. Lowes and Sears tend to carry a lot of outdoor decor- Everything from garden flags to bird baths. Many of these items are not too expensive. I like to have a Disney garden flag for each season or holiday. A little touch of Disney can go a very long way, especially for the avid Disney lover! You do not have to have Disney overload throughout your home. You can do it tastefully and fairly inexpensive.
