The times they are a changin…Magic Kingdom has always been known as the only ‘dry’ theme park at Disney World until now. The new Be Our Guest restaurant that will be opening in Magic Kingdom’s new Fantasyland will be serving beer and wine! This has been a hot topic with many Disney fans. Walt Disney himself did not want alcohol served in Disney Land and wanted to keep it a ‘family friendly’ atmosphere which has many people questioning the latest decision to serve beer and wine at the new Be Our Guest.
Be Our Guest restaurant is a french themed restaurant and according to the beverage director, Stuart McGuire, the decision was made “As part of the overall theming, we wanted to offer wine that enhances the guest experience and complements the French-inspired cuisine.” Guests can now purchase the leading French beer, Kronenbourg 1664 along with Belgian beer.
The new decision to offer beer and wine (available by the glass with the prices starting at $8 per glass ranging all the way up to $17 per glass) has sparked many questions. Some Disney fans are wondering if this will eventually open up other doors for Disney to serve alcohol throughout Magic Kingdom? Or possibly change the family friendly atmosphere. Many people think that the decision to offer beer and wine (also available by the bottle at prices ranging from $35 to a whopping $75) is just another way for Disney to make more money.
What are your thoughts on this? We would like to hear from our reader’s. Will you be purchasing a glass of wine or a beer with your meal at Be Our Guest?
I don’t like the idea at all!! There are plenty of places you can go if that is the kind of dinner experience you are looking for.
Are the other parks in Walt Disney World any less family friendly? Or the hotels for that matter? Our country has such a scewed perception of alcohol consumption.
Nick the Disney Devo here.
I had strong reservations about this at first. But then, upon thinking about it, technically, even Disneyland isn’t truly dry. Alcohol is served at the exclusive Club 33.
If people wanted to enter the Magic Kingdom inebriated previously, they could simply have had a drink before hand, or hopped a Monorail to any of the nearby resorts. As to the concern that this is just the beginning, I have no idea, but I truly believe that if there are issues that impact guest experiences, Disney will reverse this decision.
I agree with Nick, but just like previous issues, Disney usually listens. So if you truly feel upset about it, I would make a call or write an e-mail. From articles I’ve read, unless they have a BIG reason for doing something, Disney will usually change their minds if enough people voice concerns.
It’s not a bar, so people won’t be drinking there all night!
