How long do you think it takes to walk down Main Street U.S.A? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? Actually, you could spend hours on Main Street. I’m not even talking about the time spent shopping in all of the wonderful shops. Here are 4 magical moment tips for taking in everything that Main Street U.S.A has to offer.
1) Hidden Telephone– Ever wondered who lives in those apartments above the shops on Main Street? Well, I have a theory that Walt himself is up there keeping an eye on his kingdom. But our Uncle Walt has company up there and you can hear them! If you go through the Main Street Confectionery and walk all the way to the back there is a store called The Chapeau. In that store, there is an old-fashioned telephone on the right side by the exit. Pick up the phone and you can hear a mother and daughter talking! If you ask the CM’s who they are, they will chuckle and respond “Oh, those are just the people upstairs.” Whether you believe it or not, the child inside of you will.
2) Talking Mickey Mouse- If you are anything like me you always wanted Mickey to talk to you. When I was younger, my mother would put on a Mickey Mouse voice and have my stuffed Mickey talk to me. I remember longing for the day when I could talk to Mickey himself and not my mom doing a silly voice. Now I can and you can too! Right when you step into the park after going through the train station underpass look to the right. There you will find the Town Square Theatre, home to Mickey Mouse (and Tinker Bell). Tip: Don’t feel like waiting in line? You can get a fast pass to meet him! Did talking to Mickey strike up an appetite? When you enter the theater, go to your left to Tony’s Town Square restaurant where you can get Italian cuisine and dine just like Lady and the Tramp! Don’t forget to order that spaghetti and share a piece of it with a friend!
3) Shops – Carrying a lot of money is dangerous when visiting Disney World. Not because you might lose your money but because you want to buy anything and everything in the Disney shops. One of the biggest stores in all of Magic Kingdom is The Emporium on Main Street U.S.A. This shop is filled head to toe with Disney merchandise waiting to be bought by you! Don’t forget to stop by The Art of Disney to view and purchase beautiful Disney artwork and the Main Street Confectionery for some yummy sweet treats. Tip: The chocolate covered caramel apple and the chocolate covered pineapple are a Main Street Diva Must-try!
4) Good Eats- Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the crowd. You will feel like you are at a ball game when you visit Casey’s Corner on Main Street. You will find this ballpark themed quick service restaurant when you walk all the way down Main Street to the left. Tip: Get to Casey’s Corner at 11:00 a.m., right when they open and you might get chosen to throw the first pitch of the day. And baseball would not be complete with out Cracker Jacks. The CM’s give out free bags of this ball game favorite to a few lucky guests. Also, don’t miss the Casey’s Corner piano player. Take a walk across the street to the Plaza/Main Street Ice Cream Parlor. There you will find the famous “Mickey’s Kitchen Sink.” This sundae is made with three scoops of Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry ice cream, Hot Fudge, Strawberry, and Caramel topping with Whipped Cream, Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chips and Cherries (No substitutions).
Main Street USA has so many things to offer. If you don’t take your time to look at all the things around you, you might miss something fun and exciting that you never noticed before. As the wise Ferris Bueller once said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” We all know that a trip to Disney World goes by in the blink of an eye. Slow down, take your time and enjoy the magic that is around you.
“You see the greatest smiling faces up and down the street, It’s remarkable how friendly all the people can be, I’m walking right down the middle of Main Street U.S.A.”
