My family loves ice cream. I mean we have a deep love affair with it – much to the chagrin of the bathroom scale. Even our dog loves ice cream (although he gets Frosty Paws – a kind of doggie ice cream – instead of the real thing because I’m seriously not good at sharing my ice cream!) So a few years ago when we first learned of the Kitchen Sink at Walt Disney World’s Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, we knew we had to check it out!
Finishing a Kitchen Sink is a challenge not to be taken lightly. According to the menu, it is sufficient to serve 4, although I think it could easily serve 6-8 and maybe more. This iconic Disney treat is aptly named, for it is not only served in a gigantic silver “sink”, complete with a faucet, it is also made with a little bit of everything Beaches & Cream has in its kitchen. A traditional Kitchen Sink is comprised of scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. And by “scoops” they mean more than one scoop of each flavor! Then they add every topping in the house…marshmallow, strawberry, pineapple, peanut butter, hot fudge, caramel, and chocolate syrup; bites of brownie, cake, candy bars, and Oreos; chocolate and peanut butter morsels; and many, many maraschino cherries. As if this wasn’t enough, they top it off with “a WHOLE can of whipped cream!” – a fact the cast members announce to the entire restaurant when the Kitchen Sink is brought to your table amid flashing lights and great fanfare! If these ice-cream flavors don’t quite appeal to you, you may prefer the “Chocolate Lover’s” or “Neapolitan” version of the Kitchen Sink. Those are still on our bucket list!
Diva Tip: If you have allergy concerns, don’t hesitate to ask for certain ingredients to be served separately or left off altogether. When we asked for a “no peanut” option, they were happy to oblige!
The first time we attempted to finish the Kitchen Sink, we only had 3 adults in our party. We made a valiant effort, but just couldn’t quite finish everything in that sink. But we vowed to return again.
The second time we were confident we’d demolish the Kitchen Sink, for we had planned to have 5 adults tackle it. Unfortunately, one person was feeling a little under the weather, and with 4 of us we still couldn’t quite polish it off. 
Our most recent attempt was on a trip with two of our grandchildren. Nobody can compete with kids when it comes to gobbling down ice-cream! Even though it was just my husband and I with the little ones, we did a pretty good job of cleaning up that sink!
If you’d like to try the Kitchen Sink, I’d recommend getting a reservation. Beaches & Cream is extremely small and has just a very few tables. While there are tables outside, with wonderful views of Stormalong Bay, they are reserved for guests enjoying ice-cream or other yummies from the take-
out window at Beaches & Cream.
Diva Tip: If you’re not quite up to tackling a Kitchen Sink, try a Mickey Kitchen Sink Sundae available at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor in Magic Kingdom. It’s two scoops of ice cream with your choice of hot fudge, peanut butter or caramel topped with whipped cream and two cherries and served in an adorable souvenir plastic “Mickey Pants” sink.
Beaches & Cream also offers meals. Burgers, sandwiches, soup are available for lunch or dinner. Kids meals are also offered. The Disney Dining Plan is accepted, and Soarin’ Diva and her family of four enjoyed lunch at Beaches & Cream, then were able to combine their dessert credits to order the Kitchen Sink!
Remember to allow extra travel time if you are using the Disney busses to travel to Beaches & Cream. It’s located at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, so if you are traveling from another Disney resort, you will need to take a bus to a park or Disney Springs, then transfer to a bus headed to Beach Club Resort. Disney busses do not travel directly from
resort to resort. It may take over an hour to accomplish this, but just think of it as more time to work up that appetite to conquer the Kitchen Sink! If you are at Epcot or Hollywood Studios, Beach Club is within walking distance (approximately a 10 minute walk), so that may be a better option than relying on the bus transportation.
If you have a group ready for a challenge, I would highly recommend trying the Kitchen Sink. At around $30, it’s an excellent value as a treat for a group, and the memories you make trying to clean up that giant sink are priceless!
