Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

By Savvy Diva

I had the pleasure of staying at this resort recently and I thought it was fantastic!
CBR (as it’s often called) is Disney’s oldest moderate resort but you wouldn’t be able to tell that by the buildings and the rooms since they look so relatively new.

The landscaping is amazing! There are so many tropical plants, trees, and flowers. The entire resort is huge, but you can walk from the furthest room to Old Port Royale main building in about seven minutes. Everything being so spread out made the stay very quiet and peaceful.

There are seven different sandy beaches with lounge chairs and hammocks, and each set of buildings has a quiet pool area with bathrooms and laundry facilities just steps away.

At the Old Port Royale building you will find an amazing pool, a separate water play area for small children, a hot tub, pool-side bar, gift and convenience shop, concierge, arcade, quick service dining area, and a sit-down restaurant called Shutters. There is also a marina with boats and bicycles for rent, a volleyball court, and a 1.4-mile jog/bike path.
The room itself was spacious with a subtle Finding Nemo theme. The tropical fish wallpaper boarder around the top of the room had Nemo characters in it, as did the curtain divider by the bathroom area. I have seen pictures of the rooms with colorful Finding Nemo bedspreads, but we did not have those in our room this trip. It had a large flat-screen TV, lots of storage space, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, & ironing board.

There are also specialty rooms that have a full Pirates of the Caribbean theme complete with ship beds & treasure printed bedspreads, wood-panel printed carpet, wooden barrel nightstand, and many more pirate-y touches.
Pros:
·         Beautiful Caribbean island atmosphere and space to explore.
·         Spacious rooms, twin sink area, large bathtub/shower combo.
·         Internal bus and park bus stops at every group of buildings. It only took a few minutes to walk to our room.
·         Epcot is next door to the west. We were able to watch the Illuminations fireworks from the quiet pool and the beach.
·         Quick service marketplace food was excellent every time we ate there. They also run some yummy daily specials.
Cons:
·         Full size beds. (Although there is rumor that all these will be upgraded to queen soon)
·         No elevators. All the buildings have two stories and the stairs are wide and few, but if you have a stroller I suggest requesting a first-floor room.
·         Guests check in at the Custom House which is in its own little area. Unless you have your own car you will have to wait for the internal bus to drive you & your luggage to your ‘island’.
·         Park buses have to stop at every ‘island’s’ bus stop in a certain order. It’s only a few extra minutes, depending on your room location, but it can seem forever after a long day in the parks.
·         The in-room safe is small and shallow. It would not fit a laptop, but I was able to fit my iPad easily. It wouldn’t hold much more.
