Hello Darlings!
When Ursula is in a mood, you can be sure that she will relish raining on your parade during your trip to Walt Disney World. You can always expect wet weather at some point during your visit. Here are four things that can happen that are unexpected due to the wet weather and Diva Tips to get you through.
Out of the Pool
If you are relaxing at your Walt Disney World Resort and happen to be in the pool, you may be told to get your mermaid tails out. The lifeguards may seem like henchmen bothering you, but I assure you they are not one of ours. Unfortunately, they are looking out for your safety!
You will be told to evacuate the pool if there is lightning in the area. In addition, you will also have to leave the pool deck area in this situation as well. Think you are safe from the wet weather and lightning by hiding under the umbrellas, think again!
The pool and pool deck area will reopen 30 minutes from the last flash of lightning, as long as there is no more lightning in the area.
Diva Tip: Let’s be honest, Ursula’s tantrums do not last long and the rain does usually stop in 30 minutes. In the event it does not and your room at the Walt Disney World Resort is not ready yet, this is what you need to do:
You will have to transform from a mermaid to a human. To do this simply change back into the clothes you traveled in. Nothing is worse than being wet and cold while sitting in the lobby. Also no one wants to sit in a wet spot after you leave.
There are a lot of bathrooms to change in, so don’t be a guppy. Now you can go to one of the many dining options available to you or shop like a Diva in your Walt Disney World Resort comfortably.
If your Walt Disney World Resort room is ready then simply go back, shower and change.
No Room Service
Now that you are showered and changed and thinking to yourself that you do not want to weather the storm because you just did your hair so we will order room service, think again. Depending on the storm, for the safety of the Walt Disney World employees, room service delivery will be suspended! This means that you will get no food delivered to your room!
Although, you can order Uber Eats / Doordash you will still need to make it out to your Walt Disney World Resort resort lobby for pick up. These delivery drivers are not allowed to walk around the resort, even if they are delivering food.
Diva Tip: A real Wicked Diva will make one of the family members take one for the team and get food for everyone and bring back a feast. After all, life is full of tough choices!
Otherwise, plan on always having snacks and beverages stocked in the room. Everyone will have something to snack on until there is a break in the rain to run to the buses!
Walt Disney World Resort & Parks Will Be Open
Keep in mind that no matter the weather Walt Disney World is ALWAYS open. There has been a handful of times when it has closed due to inclement weather. With that being said come rain or shine Walt Disney World will be open, but some attractions maybe closed and shows maybe cancelled.
Disney’s Magic Kingdom has a rare parade, called Rainy Day Character Cavalcade, that only occurs during the wet weather.
Even in wet weather ticketed events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Disney After Hours Events or any one of the Dessert Parties will take place. Not showing up will result in loss of money and cannot be changed for a different date!
You will also need to honor your dining reservations. Cancelling your Walt Disney World dining reservation after the 24 hours will results in being charged a fee.
According to the Walt Disney World website:
Restaurants offering advance reservations charge a per – person cancellation fee for reservations cancelled after the designated cancellation period, or for no shows. Each restaurant at the Walt Disney World Resort maintains its own cancellation policy, so be sure to confirm the policy before finalizing your reservation.
Diva Tip: Bring ponchos! This really cannot be said enough Darlings! Walt Disney World doesn’t stop because of wet weather and neither should you. Find a poncho that is light weight and will not make you sweat.
Zip lock bags are not to be forgotten. Why? So your phone, wallet and small cameras do not get ruined! If you are soaking wet, so are your devices.

I’ll say it once more darlings: Do not leave the attraction queue without speaking to a Cast Member!

Choosing to replace your FastPass+ selection with a different attraction is easy. Just review the list and go to the attraction that best suits you and your entourage.

Great information! Some of our favorite times in the parks have been when it’s raining. The foolish mortals typically leave when it’s raining leaving the parks virtually empty. Like you said, as long as you have a poncho and a ziploc bag… and a change of socks you are all good.
