For close to two decades I have been a frequent Walt Disney World enthusiast. From my first visit in 1999 I dreamed of becoming a Disney Vacation Club member to feed my Disney World addiction. When Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows went on sale I finally took the plunge and became a proud Disney Vacation Club member. Dream fulfilled! All of my visits prior to becoming a DVC owner were limited to the moderate resort family. Lovely as they are, little did I know a whole new world just opened up to me.
Fast forward two years and I still believe it was an excellent decision. Actually, I feel even stronger now than I did than! Why, you ask? Here are my top 5 reasons Disney Vacation Club is awesome and some tips I learned along the way.
#5: Becoming an Annual Passholder! Prior to becoming a DVC Member it did not make sense. I never visited more than once in a twelve month window. In all reality, it was rare to go more than once every few years. Now, I have a free room freeing up funds for more frequent trips. Sprinkle in a member discount and BAM! I’m a proud Annual Passholder! Diva Tip: 1) Weigh the Pros and Cons of resale versus buying direct for your family. Not all perks are available to resale DVC Members. 2) Do the math, often an AP is less expensive than a 7day park hopper. In other words, you reap the savings in just one trip!
#4: Member Benefits! There are an array of benefits offered to DVC members. Member Benefits range from discounts on tours, dining, and park tickets to special events and swag. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying discounts on dining, park tickets, and merchandise. I will be enjoying the Ultimate Night of Adventure VIP Tour during an upcoming stay! Something I would never had done sans discount! Diva Tip: Always ask if they give a DVC or AP discount when on Disney property or booking events. I have found there are far more places that offer a discount than what is listed! And always carry your membership and passholder cards!
#3: More Magic! The more I can be in the bubble the better for everyone (giggle)! I can also experience more special events. I find I’m less focused on peak crowd times and more focused on experiences as I plan visits.
I have enjoyed Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, The EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, Disney Early Morning Magic – Fantasyland, and late January with low crowds. Diva Tip: Often times hard ticketed events like the Christmas and Halloween Party include early entry that may make a park ticket that day unnecessary for you that day.
#2: Flexibility! In addition to enjoying, The Polynesian, I have enjoyed a stay at Bay Lake Towers at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I will be staying at The Boardwalk Villas while checking out the 2018 EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival for the first time. Squee – I’m so excited. Diva Tip: Take advantage of your home resort booking window and the waitlist feature. Compare the resort locations and activities to minimize travel time.
#1: The Polynesian! Oh, this resort is more than I could have ever dreamed of. This resort speaks to my sole. The music, being on the resort loop, the decor, the food and entertainment to cast member family. I got to meet Auntie Kau’i! It’s all so special to me. The rooms are perfectly designed and appointed. The early morning beverage bar located at the leisure pool is perfection when staying in Moorea, Pago Pago, or Tokelau. Views of Magic Kingdom and the fireworks at night are magical – seriously! I honestly could visit for 7 days and never leave the resort. Diva Tip: Services such as Touring Plans room finder are great to pick out the best room for your needs.

Hubby doesn’t really believe in time shares, but I can certainly see the appeal for DVC ownerships. After all, it is the ultimate way to show your true Disney love and addiction. Thanks for linking up and supporting #mousefanmondays
It’s not for everyone and there is a bad reputation associated with timeshares. Have a magical day!
