If you’ve been a Disney fan for very long, you know that Walt always believed in moving forward, doing new things, and opening new doors. It’s evident in the constant changes you find at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Almost every week there is some new announcement about an attraction, experience, restaurant, movie, or procedure. Such is the case with Magical Extras in 2018.
You may be wondering, “What are Magical Extras?” It’s the extra perks you receive as part of a Magic Your Way room/ticket package purchased through the Walt Disney Travel Company. Typically, you receive a generic booklet in the mail with vouchers for free miniature golf, admission to ESPN Wide World of Sports, and discounts for entertainment, shopping, and dining.
For packages with arrival dates in 2018, instead of receiving a separate mailing with your voucher booklet, you will receive your vouchers and a Magical Extras card in the same box as your Magic Bands. You can find the card tucked in one end of your Magic Band box. You’ll also find 4 vouchers for one round of golf at either Disney’s Fantasia Gardens or Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course and 4 vouchers for one guest’s admission for one day to ESPN Wide World of Sports. Your luggage tags are also here!
Diva Tip: Don’t forget to look inside the cardboard tube the Magic Bands are wrapped around. You luggage tag bands are hiding in there!
We just received our card, and it is a beautiful metallic blue! The back of the card will have the name of the lead guest, the number of people in the party, and your resort dates and reservation number. You will need to present this card each time you want to take advantage of your Magical Extras benefits. So be sure to tuck it in your wallet before you head to Disney Springs! You’ll also need to show the card when you redeem the miniature golf or ESPN Wide World of Sports vouchers.
In addition, your Magical Extras card will get you discounts on lots of entertainment, shopping, and dining! Just like 2017, you can receive discounts at Splitsville Luxury Lanes and Sammy Duvall’s Water Sports. But new for 2018 are additional shopping and dining discounts! Two popular dining choices at Disney Springs – Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop and Earl of Sandwich – now offer discounts with your Magical Extras card! You can also receive a discount at Wolfgang Puck Express, a favorite of Passholder Diva (read her review here) and at Planet Hollywood Observatory (which is definitely on my “gotta-try-this” list!).
After you’ve enjoyed some of that scrumptious (and discounted!) food, you can work it off and use the money you saved by shopping! New to the list of stores which offer discounts for 2018 are Basin (another favorite of Divas!), JOHNNY WAS, Live Trends, Sublime Gifts and Finds, Sugarboo & Co. and UGG.
So if you’re thinking of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation in 2018, be sure to consider a room/ticket package. The Magical Extras will definitely add some magic to your stay! My trip isn’t until the last week of March, but for some reason I already received my Magic Bands. I thought it was way early for them to come, but this is my first trip so didn’t know. I didn’t have a Magical Extras card. Is this something extra you pay for? How do I get one? Thanks!
Hi Jessica! It is most likely that you booked the Give the Gift of Magic Offer and received the special Magic Bands, not the plain colored Magic Bands with your resort package. Usually, Magic Bands do not arrive until closer to 30 days before your trip. Those Magic Bands are one of kind! Enjoy your trip!
My came with my final documents 30-15days before trip and after full payment.
Hi! I’m traveling to disney this June from outside of the US (Chile), so we dont get to receive the Magic Bands beforehand. Should I expect the magical extras card when I receive them at the resort? Thanks for the info.
Hi Catalina – I asked one of our Divas who does not live within the United States and she said, they handed me the card separately from the magic bands. We don’t get the magic band boxes. The resort just hands us the bands around a cardboard cylinder. Make sure you check inside the cylinder for the luggage tags if they booked a package. Enjoy your trip and let us know if we can assist in any other way with your planning.
If you’re an AP holder and booked a room only reservation does that mean you don’t get any of the extras? Just a magic band?
Good morning Alison. That is correct. No magical extras with room only reservations.
Can you use the card more than once at the same locations during your vacation? Ex: can I use it first day and last day at earl of sandwich? and can I use the card every time I order coffee at a Joffreys location?
Good afternoon Alicia! The Magical Extras discounts can be used multiple times at the same location with the exception of activities that require the vouchers-Mini Golf and Espn entry.
Do DVC members get this card as well?
This card is only offered is a package is booked or room only plus dining.
I received my Disney Extras Card… We are going to Disney World for 2 days… then we are going to a beach house… then back to Disney for another 2 days. We aren’t staying in the Disney resort until the last 2 days…. my question is:
Can I use the card during the first 2 days at Disney? Or will it only be activated when I check into the resort the last 2 days?
Thanks.
Hello Robin and thank you for the question. The Magical Extras card should only be valid when you check in. That being said, Disney World can be fickle and many policies vary depending on which Cast member you speak with. You can always take your card with you for the first leg of your trip and ask if you can use it early. Worst case they say “No!”.
