Aladdin and Jasmine Costume Ideas

With Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) in full swing at both Disneyland and Disney World and Halloween coming quickly around the corner, it can be hard to choose the perfect costume for your family, especially if you want your kiddos to coordinate. Luckily for me, I also happen to have an obsession with doing fairytale photoshoots with my kids, and decided that an Aladdin and Jasmine photoshoot would be the perfect costume (and a great way to get us in the dressing up spirit!)

Aladdin

We were actually lucky for the Aladdin costume because my mom was able to make the entire outfit and luckily, had most of the fabric already on hand. To make the vest and pants, my mom used patterns she found at her local Walmart (the pants were actually based off of a pajama pant pattern). The belt was just some spare brown fabric she had that she attached velcro to make it adjustable and help hold the pants up, and the hat was featured on the blog, “Colors of Our Rainbow” and I discovered through a Pinterest search. Unfortunately, we lost the hat before we took pictures of the full ensemble, but you can check out the blog to see how it looks.  Disney Diva Tip: Okay, I know Aladdin goes barefoot, but if that’s not an option for you (particularly if you’re wearing the costume at a theme park), I recommend going with a pair of tan sandals. We found a cute pair (that was on clearance!) at Walmart.

Jasmine

The Jasmine costume was the easiest to create since I bought everything. For the outfit itself, I used our highly recommended Mom Approved Costumes ensemble you can find here. Disney Diva Tip: What I really like about Mom Approved Costumes is that not only are the costumes reasonably priced, but they are very durable and machine-washable! You can shop with full confidence knowing that your costume won’t fall apart after being worn once and at the same time, if Halloween candy (or a Mickey Mouse bar) melts onto the costume, just toss it in the washing machine and you’re good to go!

For the shoes, I kinda cheated. Since I couldn’t find Jasmine shoes, I opted to have my daughter wear her Elsa shoes we bought at the Disney Store. Yes, anyone paying really close attention to her feet might have noticed the snowflakes on top, but to me, it was more about the color and I didn’t worry too much about it.

But my favorite part of the ensemble was the accessories. Can I just tell you how hard it is to find Jasmine accessories that look authentic? Well I found them on the Etsy shop, ArtBows, and oh my goodness, how cute are they?  ArtBows comes with all kinds of variations for the ensemble… with multiple options to choose from when picking your headband such as satin or elastic, blue or aqua and whether it’s for a child or an adult, as well as choosing whether the earrings are for pierced ears or clip-ons. The necklace itself is made of real metal and is of a very good quality… It also has an adjustable chain and both my daughter and I were able to wear it without issue, which is nice for any of you ladies out there are some accessories to complete your Jasmine Halloween or runDisney costume. My daughter really loved the set and even when she wasn’t dressed as Jasmine, she still wanted to wear her Jasmine necklace all over Disneyland as well as around town while running errands. You cannot believe how many people would tell my daughter how adorable she looked or what a lovely little princess she was. So whether you’re at the parks or just showing off your Disney side at home, you know you’ll get lots of compliments and help make your little one feel that extra Disney magic. Disney Diva Tip: Depending on whether you are attending MNSSHP, a runDisney event, or just trick-or-treating around your own neighborhood, one style may be better than the other. If you are doing a runDisney race, I would definitely pick the satin headband (I think it would stay in place better while running). Don’t worry about the necklace though… while you always want to try on your full costume before a race and do a practice run, both my daughter and I tried it and had no problem running in it.

Looking for some more fun Jasmine and Aladdin photo ideas to show off your attire? Set up a scene with fake treasure (you can find this in any party store and even most dollar stores) as well as the Genie’s lamp. Depending on how simple or how ornate you would like it to be, you can find a wide variety of options, but I like this Genie’s lamp from Amazon.com.

Want to do a scene that’s a little more unique? Why not do a marketplace scene? Throw in a couple of pots, maybe a tent, or even just an apple and you’re all set! Don’t have a brown cloak for Jasmine? That’s okay… we actually used the Mom Approved Costumes Galactic Warrior cloak and threw that over her Jasmine costume. Boom! Problem solved.

Disney Diva Tip: If you are lucky enough to be at Disneyland, I highly recommend taking pictures by Aladdin’s Oasis. Not only is it the perfect backdrop (you look like you’re in Agrabah), there is also a giant Cave of Wonders tiger head in the dining area and a Magic Carpet tile mosaic in the entry way for you to pose by to enhance your photos… and you might even stumble into Aladdin, Jasmine, or the Genie there to snag a couple of cute character photos! For those of you who are visiting Disney World, “The Magic Carpets of Aladdin” in Magic Kingdom may also be a good area to pose and take pictures as you set off on an adventure to see a whole new world. Not going to Disney? If there’s a botanical garden near you, you might be able to find a suitable background over there… just look around and be creative!
