While Hollywood Studios is undergoing MASSIVE transitions, I find it difficult to find attractions that are worth going to. And once the new Star Wars area opens, it will surely be a HOT park, but there are some “oldies but goodies” there that are not to be missed, one being Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage. I am a huge Beauty and the Beast fan- it is one of my favorite movies from my childhood, Belle is my favorite princess, and of course my pen name for the blog is Beauty and the Beast Diva (because my husband’s Disney obsession is greater than mine and he chimes in a LOT on my articles). We rarely miss an opportunity to see this show.
Okay, maybe the acting is a little over the top and borderline cheesy but it takes me back and sticks to the storyline from the movie. The actors are acting and singing live, the choreography is amazing and the set is truly over the top! You will find the show directly off Sunset Blvd in the “Theater of the Stars”. The show takes place in a covered amphitheater where you will find yourself sitting on metal benches, that are not terribly comfortable. and honestly, you are packed in a little tight. Fast passes are also available (Tip: don’t waste a fast pass on this show, there are a LOT of other attractions at Hollywood Studios I’d opt to use a fast pass for first) for this 30-minute stage show but not to worry, the theater seats about 1,500 people and I have never had a bad view of the stage regardless of where I’ve been seated. There is also handicapped and hearing impaired seating areas, just see guest services to facilitate this service. There are roughly 5 shows per day, starting in the late morning and occurring at the top of the hour.
As the show begins you see the Beast in his human form, being magically turned into a Beast before your eyes by the beggar woman. You are then transported to Belle’s “quiet village” where you get to see all of the people in her town busy at work until Gaston shows up to try to “woo and marry Belle”. You then hear the narrator tell the quick version of how Belle ends up in Beast’s castle, and you are transported there and greeted by Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and Chip! You then see the romance blossom between Belle and Beast until Gaston shows up to try to kill the Beast in hopes of winning Belle over, but of course true love conquers all and the Beast is transformed back into his human form and they end up dancing beautifully together in his ballroom.
In this production, you will hear original songs from the movie such as “Belle”, “Gaston”, “Be Our Guest” (YES!) and “Something There”, “The Mob Song”, closing with “Beauty and the Beast”, the theme from the movie. The choreography for “Be Our Guest” is fantastic; don’t be surprised when the set starts dancing along with the performers. The closing number to “Beauty and the Beast” Belle is dancing with her prince in her iconic yellow dress and it is BEAUTIFUL.
As you file out you are delighted to hear the cover by Celine Dion and Peebo Bryson and I am usually left singing, better yet my husband is left listening to me singing songs from the show for the rest of the day, and I might break out into a mini kick line from time to time as well, but hey, I’m in Disney!
