Normally I am a Value Resort kind of person. My family and I are only in our rooms to sleep and shower so we choose not to spend the extra money on a larger room knowing we won’t be there. Although occasionally we will try out a moderate resort. On my honeymoon, we stayed at The Caribbean Beach Resort and on our 5th anniversary we stayed at The Coronado Springs Resort so this time, on our 7th anniversary, we chose to try Port Orleans French Quarter and I do believe I have found my favorite resort (so far!).
When I first received my text stating my room was ready, I was not too happy about being in building 6 because from the map I thought this was a long walk from the main building, food court, and pool. I was used to the larger resorts like Coronado Springs and The Caribbean Beach, but after we arrived and I walked around, I realized it was not far away from anything. This resort has seven buildings that are all close to each other (as well as everything you need), so nothing is more than a five minutes walk at the most. You can also choose to walk by the river or down the middle of the resort, which has beautiful streets and gardens. It is extremely quaint and quiet, nothing like the noise I have experienced at value resorts or other moderate resorts. The bus stop was also just a short walk away from our building.
One of the reasons I wanted to try Port Orleans French Quarter (other than for the beignets, which are AMAZING) was for the new aquatic play area that had recently opened. My youngest son just turned 6 and I thought he would really enjoy this new area and I was right. It is wonderfully decorated in a Mardi Gras theme and has 2 slides, fountains, and fun water canons. (This area is for children 48 inches and under). The new play area is located right next to the Double Lagoon pool so it’s easy to go from one to the other without having to gather your belongings to go from place to place. My son also loved the pool, especially the Sea Serpent slide. There is also a bar right next to the pool for the grown ups to enjoy and right out from the main pool there is a jacuzzi hot tub and across from that a playground. For those of you who do laundry while at Disney World, the laundry facility is also right outside from the pool so you can throw in a load of clothes to wash and swim while you wait!
This a resort I highly recommend taking a break from the parks to enjoy a few hours of the recreational activities they have to offer. Not only do they have great pools but they also offer horse-drawn carriage rides, surrey bike rentals, and Cajun campfire activities, and movies under the stars. Another great reason to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter is you are able to take a boat to Disney Springs, which saves you the hassle of getting in your car or taking the bus. The river is beautiful and it makes for a lovely boat ride. Another perk is that the Port Orleans Riverside Resort is only about a 10 minute walk away and you are also able to use their pool or eat at their restaurant if you feel like trying something different while you are there. So if you are looking for small, quaint, and peaceful Port Orleans French Quarter is the place for you. Give it a try, I think you will love it!
*The Port Orleans French Quarter restaurant Sassagoula is currently undergoing refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen in the Fall of 2016. They currently have a temporary dining area which still serves most food items including their amazing beignets. You are also able to use your Disney dining plan refillable mugs with their free style Coke machine.
