To ride the many “big” rides at Disney World you need to be 40 inches tall.  Many parents take this into consideration when planning a trip.  Being 40 inches or taller means there are very little limits to what you can ride. Unless a child doesn’t want to ride, you won’t have to deal with the rider switch.  But what if your child is under 40 inches?  What can they do?  Plenty! *Note to due to COVID not all these attractions have reopened, check the MyDisneyExperience app for the most up to date information while enjoying your Walt Disney World vacation.*

If you aren’t sure on your child’s height, you can always check before you get in line

For starters, most kids under 40 inches are usually under three and are free!  Our youngest, who is very tall for his age (a young 3) is only 39 1/2 inches.  Disney must account for shoes, because even with them on he is still about a half an inch too short.  However, there is still a large list of things he can do, see, and ride.

This list is for the current rides at Disney World.  You will want to double-check before your trip the exact height requirements for new or refurbished rides.

Magic Kingdom Under 40 inches 

• Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: Height Requirement 38 inches (97cm) or taller
• Tomorrowland Speedway Height Requirement 32 inches (81cm) or taller to ride with someone, but can drive
• “Goofy’s Barnstormer” at least 35 inches (89 cm) or taller

• Crush ‘n’ Gusher: Height Requirements 48″ (122 cm) or taller

Age Restrictions:

• Shark Reef: Any height (guests must be 10 years old or older)
• Shark Reef Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
• “Before/After hours Surfing”- students must be at least 8 years old

He looks like he is tall enough, but he is 1/2 an inch short. Almost there buddy!

As you can see, there are plenty of things for those under 40 inches.  I didn’t include character meet n’ greets, character meals, parades, fireworks, and shows.  You don’t have to wait for the magic “40 inches” before coming to Walt Disney World.  No matter what height you are, you are bound to have a magical time!
