Nestled amongst the trees is a grand, beautiful lodge. Just through the doors is a lobby full of woodsy details and a large, roaring, stone fireplace surrounded by rocking chairs. A bubbling of water trickles from the lobby to the outdoors. Despite the feelings of being in a lodge at Yellowstone, we are in Florida at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
The most amazing thing about Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is that you really feel as though you are out in nature. Away from it all. When, in reality, you are just a short distance from several other resorts and a huge theme park- the Magic Kingdom Park!
The lobby of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is quite breathtaking! The most noticeable feature is the grand fireplace, standing at 80 feet tall. The colors of the stone represent the geologic layout of the Grand Canyon. Rocking chairs rest in front of the fireplace, providing the perfect resting spot to enjoy the warmth of the fire or simply take a break from the busyness of the parks. Within the lobby area is a very popular restaurant, Whispering Canyon Café. Check out Cruisin’ Diva’s review of Whispering Canyon Café. Diva tip: If dining at Whispering Canyon Cafe, ask for ketchup! (You will be amazed.) In addition to this table service restaurant, there is a quick service option, Roarin’ Forks, a poolside quick service, Trout Pass Pool Bar, and the Territory Lounge. One of Walt Disney World’s finest signature restaurants is located at the Wilderness Lodge, Artist Point.
The lobby area is filled with creative details like totem poles, teepee lanterns, and artwork. The massive chandeliers depict scenes of the old west. Even the gift shop welcomes guests with a totem pole (Disney-style, of course).
Within the lobby, you will find the bubbling of a spring. This feature creatively flows from the lobby, down to the pool. It is quite a pleasant area for resting with the rumblings of the water and a great view outdoors.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge offers a large pool (with a water slide), a children’s play area (with two slides and lots of water features), hot tubs, and a quiet pool. Our children loved the area made for them! Plenty of seating surrounded each pool and play area.
The scenery at Wilderness Lodge cannot be beat. It is truly a beautiful resort! From the trees, to the flowers, and the occasional spotting of wildlife, it is truly magnificent.
There is also a geyser that shoots up every hour on the hour. Of course we missed it each time, but it is a super neat feature to have at the lodge.
There is a spacious beach area located behind the Wilderness Lodge on Bay Lake. This area has lots of chairs for lounging, a playground for children, and an activity center to schedule boat rides, water rentals, fishing opportunities and bike rentals. Each night the Electric Water Pageant goes by the Wilderness Lodge.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is conveniently located near the Magic Kingdom. The park is just a boat ride away. In addition to the boat service to Magic Kingdom, buses are available to transport guests to all parks, waterparks, and Disney Springs.
The resort and rooms are creatively designed and perfectly themed. Even the carpeting in the hallways had hidden Mickey’s!
The overall impression of the room was great. Though Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a Deluxe Resort, the rooms are still on the small side. The rooms at a Wilderness Lodge are comparable to the size of rooms at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, while most other Deluxe Resorts have larger rooms. We are a family of four with our children ages 6 and 3, so the space wasn’t an issue for us.
Handles, headboards, pillows, and even the shower had special touches! I love this about Walt Disney World. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is definitely spot-on with the theming.
For our stay, we were in a woods view room, which overlooked the quiet pool and trees. Our balcony had a covered bottom, which made viewing for my children difficult, and had two chairs and a table.
Overall, we loved our stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The details really made this room and resort special. Beds were super comfy, and we enjoyed all of the features that were available. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort and additional information can be found at the Walt Disney World website. Want to book your next stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge?
