With so many amazing water-filled attractions, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is the perfect storm of fun! Whether you are looking for an action-packed adventure or a nice relaxing day at the beach, Typhoon Lagoon has something for everyone. So grab a surfboard and a beach towel and let’s take a look at one of Disney’s best waterparks.
Lush greenery, and Lagoona Gator, greet guests at Typhoon Lagoon. A short walk down the entrance path leads to a beautiful view of the water park’s signature attraction, the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool. As North America’s largest wave pool, the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool takes swimmers face-to-face with swells up to 6 feet. While this pool is fun for everyone, only those who are confident in swimming should dare to take on the big waves, which are indicated by a loud blare of a horn. Diva Tip: The largest waves are quite strong. Even in some of the shallow areas, the force from the waves could easily knock down a child. Be prepared to hold on and brave the waves as they come in! Want to further your wave pool fun and catch a wave on a surfboard? Consider scheduling a private session or surfing lesson offered at Typhoon Lagoon. If braving large waves isn’t your thing, there are numerous lounge chairs spread throughout the sandy beaches that provide great views of the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool. Enjoy lunch poolside in covered areas, or simply take a nap while basking in the sun. This is my personal favorite! Keep an eye out for water shooting upwards from Mount Mayday, which sits atop the Surf Pool and holds a stranded boat, Miss Tilly.
For the more adventurous at heart, Typhoon Lagoon offers some of the wildest and wettest attractions like Humunga Kowabunga, an enclosed slide that reaches speeds up to 30 mph, Crush ‘n’ Gusher, three slides full of twists and turns, and Gangplank Falls, a rapids-filled family water ride. Perhaps the most adventurous area of all is the Shark Reef. Shark Reef allows park guests the opportunity to hop in the water and snorkel with sharks and other tropical fish. Snorkeling gear is available to use, for free, at Hammer Head Fred’s Dive Shop. Lifejackets are also available. If swimming with the sharks doesn’t sound appealing, guests can avoid the water and catch views from an observation area below the tanks. This is truly an amazing experience and opportunity to have at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park!
When ready to slow things down, Castaway Creek is the place to be! Relax in an inner tube as you float down the peaceful lazy river, surrounded by beautiful, tropical scenery. Children are welcome on this ride but must be accompanied by an adult. There are numerous entry/exit spots, making it convenient to enjoy Castaway Creek from areas all around Typhoon Lagoon.
The youngest visitors at Typhoon Lagoon can flip their fins at Ketchakiddee Creek. This play area features an array of activities like slides and fountains perfect for children under 48 inches tall.
All of the swimming, surfing and sliding will leave guests hungry, but Typhoon Lagoon offers plenty of dining options, featuring burgers, pizza, chicken nuggets, sandwiches, salads and hot dogs. Be sure to grab some of the freshly made mini-donuts, or a sundae in a Sand Pail at Happy Landings Ice Cream.
Souvenir merchandise and swimming necessities are available for purchase at Singapore Sal’s Beachwear, Gifts & Sundries. And storing belongings is easy at High ‘N’ Dry Towel and Locker Hut.
Overall, my visit to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park was wonderful. I enjoyed relaxing on the sandy beach area and exploring all that the park had to offer. The landscaping and tropical feel make Typhoon Lagoon a beautiful and fun place to spend the day!
