When people go to Disney World they are always looking for something fun and exciting and different for their children- and even themselves! Most everyone has heard of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or the Pirate League where your children can be made into beautiful princesses or a scruffy pirate. Not everyone has heard of the Harmony Barber Shop though. It is one of Disney’s little secrets that I want to tell you about. The Harmony Barber Shop is located in the Magic Kingdom right across from the Fire Station. This is a very small building and it can be easy to miss if you don’t know it’s there. But for a small building, they do great things! My son had his first official haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop and it was an experience we will never forget.
My son was not thrilled with the idea of getting his haircut, but our barber Diane did an amazing job keeping him preoccupied and happy. First she gave him tons of Mickey stickers and he was able to put them all over himself and the chair. She also let him choose some toys to play with and they seemed to help a lot! He did not like the cape so she chose to cut his hair without it. She took his first lock of hair, tied it up in a sachet, and put a Mickey sticker on it for us to keep.
Once she was done my son was presented with a certificate for bravely receiving his first haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop. He was also given Mickey ears with My First Haircut stitched on the back (these are included in the package price). He wasn’t very happy with the ears but he sure did look cute!
The good news is ANYONE can get their haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop. They also do fun hairstyles for kids using confetti or colored hair gel. As of now an adult haircut is $19, a child’s haircut is $15, the My First Haircut package is $19, and colored hair gel is $5. This is a great alternative to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or the Pirate League for those children not quite old enough or parents who aren’t quite ready to pay for the experience. Besides, who wouldn’t love to say they got their hair cut at Disney World?
Even though walk ins are welcome I highly recommend making a reservation at 1-407-WDW-PLAY. We loved it so much we took my son back for a regular haircut this past year!
Diane cut my daughter’s hair on our last trip! She’s super nice!! My daughter is 14, but she’s always wanted to get her hair cut at the Barber Shop. We waited for two hours, but it was worth it! While waiting, we met another family from across the country and had a chance to watch the Dapper Dans perform.
