My husband was stationed in Georgia back in September of 2004 and I was SUPER excited to be SO close to Disney World! I couldn’t wait to go! Veteran’s Day Weekend came around and off we went. Of course, before going, I did a bit of research to see what kind of discounts (if any) were offered to members of the Armed Forces. I found out there is a whole resort just for military members called Shades of Green…how cool is that? We, unfortunately, did not stay there but it looks like a wonderful resort.
Here are a few of Shades of Green’s special offers as of April 2012…

There are also military discounts if you are NOT staying at Shades of Green.
My husband and I stayed at the Pop Century Resort and we received a discount there as well. Walt Disney World Resorts offer between a 30% and 40% discount on rooms for military…all you have to do is ask. However, be aware, there are some very specific qualifications documentation you must provide in order to get the discounts.
Since we were stationed at a military base, we were able to purchase discounted tickets for the parks at our MWR (Morale Welfare & Recreation) office. You CANNOT get military discounts tickets to any WDW park at the parks themselves. You have to get them at a military installation OR at Shades of Green. What you get at a military base is not the actual park ticket either. The “tickets” from the base (sign, shape & feel of a credit card) have to be activated at Guest Relations at one of the parks. Kimberly Rogers, an active member of the military and avid Disney fan, says that if you have a large group, Guest Relations can only process 6 park tickets per military ID card. She wasn’t told this when I bought 7 park tickets at the local base, but luckily her husband was standing with her and he had his retired ID card with him.
