When Toy Story came on the scene in 1995 I was a Junior in high school. That December our choir was a part of the Candlelight Procession and living Christmas tree so we got to take a trip to WDW. There was promotional material about Toy Story everywhere. That I clearly remember, but I don’t remember having any interest in the film itself.
Once my son was born in 2002 my husband, who had been collecting Disney films back when they were on VHS, started afresh with a Disney DVD collection that would now make your head swim. At the top of the list? Toy Story. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 became my son’s favorite films and we watched them over and over for approximately two years. “oody” and “buzz” became our closest com-padres and we were all able to quote every line of both movies with ease.
Since then Pixar continues to challenge me to improve myself as a person. And here’s how.
Toy Story – Just because you’re no longer “the favorite” doesn’t mean you’re not still loved.
A Bugs Life – You can accomplish more together than you can by yourself.
Toy Story 2 – Don’t forget the things that have made you who you are.
Monsters, Inc – Regardless of how different you seem to be you can love one another deeply.
Finding Nemo – Swim the ocean for your children and let them know you would!
The Incredibles – Never try to be something you’re not.
Cars – There’s value in knowing your neighbors.
Ratatouille – Don’t judge a book by its cover!
WALL-E – Take better care of your planet
Up – Be the best wife you can be & take time to count the cars with your kids. It’s the little things that will be remembered .
Toy Story 3 – Even when your children grow up they are still children at heart.
Cars 2 – Sometimes you just get lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
Pixar has made me a better person, and I am thankful that they take the time to develop a story to tug at my heart strings.
